The Test

You will have 60 minutes to complete the Writing module of the IELTS General Training test. 

You will complete two tasks. The first task will take about 20 minutes and the second will take about 40 minutes. 

You will write at least 150 words for Task One, and 250 words for Task Two.

In Task One, you will write a letter requesting information or explaining a situation. 

In Task Two you will be presented with a point of view, an argument or a problem. You may be asked to provide general factual information, outline a problem and present a solution, present and justify an opinion, or evaluate and challenge an argument.

You will be assessed on: 

  • Task Achievement (Task One) / Task Response (Task Two)
  • Coherence and Cohesion
  • Lexical Resource (Vocabulary)
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy
